We decided to include in our rating those bosses that we remember the most for various reasons. Some bosses were remembered as the most difficult, others as the most impressive — or, conversely, as the most disappointing.
Wrath of the Lich King is considered one of the most popular additions of WoW, so its bosses are also well remembered. This add-on continues to be played for many years, so if you haven’t tried it yet, it’s a great time to start. It is important to remember that it will be extremely difficult for you to play if you do not have enough wow wotlk gold. This is the main game currency, without which it is almost impossible to defeat the Lich King. If you have gold, you can buy the right gear, mounts, pets, and more.
Blizzard decided to complicate the task of dungeon conquerors in the banalest of ways: by limiting them to an artificial block. In a week, players were given only 50 attempts to complete the introductory raid, the Crusader Trials, and limited chances to kill all the final bosses of the Icecrown Citadel: no more than 30 (over time, this number was raised to 50). Considering that advanced raiders usually took hundreds of attempts to master a new boss, it looked like a mockery.
Nevertheless, the final raid of the Wrath of the Lich King expansion itself turned out to be excellent: moderately complex, beautifully designed, and saturated with events and revelations important for mythology. The main innovation proved to be excellent in it: the heroic mode of the raid dungeon. And even some restrictions played into the hands of those who could not spend ten hours a day on the game — however, over time they were canceled forever.
The prince, whose name was once whispered by the forests of Lordaeron, in the armor of the Lich King and the Helmet of Domination, coped perfectly with the role of the final boss of the supplement. It is no coincidence that Arthas became one of the heroes of the cycle of battles in honor of the fifteenth anniversary of the game.
The old-timers of WoW usually immediately recall Ragnaros among the most difficult and insidious bosses. This fire lord elemental caused difficulties for experienced raiders. And twice: in the classic game, he lived in the Fiery Depths in the heart of the Black Mountain. But there Ragnaros was a “draft” boss: several conditions had to be met for his appearance, and most guilds simply ignored this opportunity. As a result, this version of the boss was killed for the first time only 154 days after the raid was opened.
But in the Fiery Expanses — the raid of the “Cataclysm” era — Ragnaros got the role of the final boss, so there was no way to get around him. The Raiders had to get involved in a long and exhausting battle. Ragnaros did not have particularly complex mechanics, but his various fire attacks required the utmost attention and precise positioning of every single participant in the raid. But it’s not so easy to maintain full concentration for as much as 20-30 minutes! That’s the result: it took more than five hundred attempts to kill the new version of the elemental Lord for the first time.
From the point of view of the history and mythology of World of Warcraft, Kael’thas Sunstrider became one of the first reasons to reproach the game’s scriptwriters for negligence: the Alliance hero very sharply became an ally of Illidan and Lady Vashj, standing under the banners of Kil’jaeden and the Burning Legion. And from the point of view of game mechanics, the lord of the blood elves had a very unsightly role: in fact, he served as an armored door.
All because in addition to Burning Crusade, the developers resorted to an innovation: if earlier any raids were available to everyone, now they decided to arrange them in a “chain”, breaking them into phases. The raids were opened gradually, and some of them also had to earn access. In particular, the raid bosses Lady Vashj and Kael’thas were called upon to “drop” special vials needed to enter Mount Hyjal, the Black Temple, and then the Sunwell Plateau. And if there were no special problems with Queen Azshara’s accomplice, then Kael’thas turned out to be a tough nut to crack.
During the battle, Kael’thas did what he wanted. He could suddenly disappear in the middle of a battle. He could fixate on a random player and fly after him around the hall while being invulnerable. His adviser created deadly puddles on the floor — yes, it seems nothing complicated, but they were invisible! His other advisers dealt with magicians and healers with one blow, and one deadly powerful spell was repeated by Kael’thas faster than the tanks had time to restore the shields. In general, the boss was virtually unkillable — and neither the tricks of the raiders nor the repeated edits did not change the situation. For the first time, it was possible to kill Kel’thas only 130 days after his appearance in the game.
We tried to choose for you the most interesting bosses in the game. Perhaps you have already defeated these bosses a long time ago and are just nostalgic with us, remembering the hours or days spent in the game trying to kill Kael’thas. Maybe it’s just worth remembering the past and going through one of the add-ons again. Or maybe you’ve never played World of Warcraft before? Then by all means play. Despite the fact that the game has been around for many years, it does not lose its popularity around the world. The Guardian put World of Warcraft in the 13th position in the top 50 best video games.
